The challenge
Shipt is launching digital gift cards and customers are able to purchase them with personalized designs and custom value that can be used toward market place orders. The main focus is to create excitement around sending a personalized digital gift card with Shipt credit and memberships while motivating our audience to buy gift cards as gifts. The key performance indicator would be the number of gift cards and memberships purchased as well as acquiring new members.
Process
I started with brainstorming a list of items I associate with each and considered our Shipt spark, bringing an extra twinkle to them. I sketched out my ideas on Procreate and layered them with risograph texture before vectorizing them on Illustrator. We had a new suite of holiday illustrations created for us and I repurposed them to work hard on hitting on these moments along with creating my own. It was also important to illustrate accurately, for example not including alcohol in the designs since customers cannot purchase alcohol with Shipt credits. My other intention was to keep our Shipt logo always visible whether that was on the bottom right corner or somewhere naturally where it’d make sense. My designs lived on landing pages, emails, in-app, and social media.
Art Direction
These gift cards would express key cultural moments, occasions, and celebrations like birthdays, going back to school, having a baby, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and other holidays. There was a strong push about gift cards being agnostic to our audience and general enough that they could relate to them and feel excited. The Results
The projected goal was to issue 500 membership credit gift cards within the first three month from launch. Since the August launch, we’ve driven the purchase of 600+ gift cards that had a 73% redemption rate. The 524 gift cards with Shipt credit purchased had 58% same day redemption while the 132 membership gift cards had 77% were annual membership purchase. As the holiday cards launch, they will be inclusive of improving the app experience, and continuing to drive gift card purchases through holiday messaging.
